"teeth care"A lot of people tend to neglect their overall dental health, thinking that oral hygiene is not that important. Some do not regularly brush or floss, while some do not observe the proper way of doing so. There are those who think that as long as they brush their teeth, they will maintain good dental health. However, what most don’t realize is that how a person brushes his teeth is actually a big factor that can affect his overall oral hygiene. There is also the fact that brushing alone is not enough to maintain good dental health.

The Toothbrush

Toothbrushes have different types of brushes on them. Some have softer bristles while some have harder ones. The pattern of the bristles on the brush is also quite important if you want to safely and thoroughly clean your teeth when brushing. Soft bristles are preferred overall. Brushing with hard bristles can cause damage to your teeth and gums, especially if you have sensitive gums. Bleeding and other problems caused by hard bristles can cost you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in the long run.

Manner of Brushing

Some people brush using a horizontal motion while some brush using a vertical motion. There are even some people who brush their teeth alternating between the two, and brushing sideways or in an up and down motion can cause your gum to wear out over time. The ideal way to effectively and safely brush your teeth is by using a circular motion.

Flossing

Some people, right after a meal, tend to look for toothpicks to dislodge any food particles that have gotten stuck in between their teeth. Unfortunately, using toothpicks is not at all advised as they can ruin your teeth’s spacing. Instead, you will want to use dental floss to get rid of the food particles. Also, remember to use mouthwash to rinse your mouth on a daily basis.

Your Visits to the Dentist

People are encouraged to visit their dentists at least twice a year. This is a very important part in maintaining your dental health, especially if you want to avoid getting any serious dental conditions. Visiting your dentist means that you will get an update on the current state of your dental health. If cavities are already starting to become a problem, or if there are any signs of tooth decay, the dentist will be able to fix your teeth before the problem gets worse. Bi-annual visits to your dentist can even save you some money in the long run, especially if you are already starting to get some dental problems. Regular examinations and cleanings are vital in keeping your teeth and gums healthy.

Tooth Bleaching

A very popular way of getting white teeth is undergoing tooth bleaching. This is a very effective way to whiten teeth, and they will stay white for quite a long while. Because of this, some people become lax regarding their oral hygiene. Thus, they fail to regularly and thoroughly brush their teeth. As a result, their teeth lose their whiteness quickly and the need for another tooth bleaching surfaces yet again.
